,Registering for fine china is becoming a thing of the past, thanks to technology and the shifting priorities of today's couples. If you and your partner are already living together, you may find the act of setting up a wedding registry to be a difficult task. Perhaps you already have everything you need for your kitchen and home… what are you supposed to register for? Or maybe you and your spouse-to-be just value experiences over things. Whatever the case may be, you may find that a choosing a honeymoon registry is a great option for you!
In case you're not familiar with the term, a honeymoon registry is a modern take on a wedding registry for today's couples. It allows soonlyweds to register for experiences such as hotel stays, activities, flights and more. Then, their guests are able to financially contribute towards the things a couple registered for. Essentially, you could register for the trip of a lifetime or a few days away at a nice hotel - whatever your choice, it will be funded by your nearest and dearest in celebration of your marriage. Awesome, right?
We recently had a couple who had already put aside money to do a big trip through Europe but they wanted their guests to contribute to buy their experiences whilst away ... each guest was sent a list of things the couple wanted to do eg: eat pizza on the steps of trevi fountain ($25) - visit the Hagia Sophia ($50) - when they were away they took photos of themselves performing that experience and sent that photo to the person who gifted it as their 'thank you' card ... what a great idea! One you're welcome to copy ....
Pros of honeymoon registries ...
So how does it work?
Usually enclosed with your wedding invitiation, the "note on gifts" as shown below is sent to your guests - this shows them straight away what your intentions regarding gifts are, and it should stop those bazillion questions on "what do you want?"... Around a week or so after your invitations have gone out, I will contact the guests and send them a pamphlet on the honeymoon registry - this explains what the registry is about - what you are saving for ie: flights to Paris, a weekend in Taupo etc - it also lets the guests know they have the option to donate anonymously or allow you to know who gave what - some guests may feel uncomfortable letting you know how much they 'spent' on you so I will just let you know they donated - not the amount. Guests have the option to pay via credit card as well as the normal everyday ways like cash/internet banking. They can also pay in "increments." if its easier for them.
Once the guest has donated, we will send them a Honeymoon Registry Card that they are then able to gift to you on your special day.
If we give the guests a deadline, usually within a month or two of receiving the invitation, then you have enough time to plan your honeymoon and get that out the way so you can concentrate on your big day.
What does it cost?
There is a one-off set up fee of $99 payable on registry set up - this covers all the preparation, printing and cards for your guests. All guest donations are YOURS to spend how you like.
